Jim McLennan Talks Fly Fusion TV and Downing Drones

In this podcast Fly Fusion editor, Derek Bird, catches up with Fly Fusion TV co-host, Jim McLennan, to chat about what it’s like behind the scenes. He discusses his best memories, his favourite rivers and his most enjoyable moments while out filming the TV series.

Though McLennan is one of the most proficient casters around, he confesses to the destructive results of one particularly wayward cast.

Gear Review: Fishpond’s Thunderhead Duffel

With fishpond’s innovative commitment to creating attractive, functional, and
environmentally friendly products, the company consistently provides the fly-fishing
consumer with a responsible option. Lots of companies support environmental
initiatives, and that’s essential, but fishpond takes their commitment to another level by
creating products from recycled nylon commercial fishing nets.

Aside from the fact that the Thunderhead Duffel is created by an environmentally aware company, with the TIZIP submersible zipper, the product is completely waterproof which means all your valuables will be safe and dry when you’re out on that multi day float trip.

The bag also features outdoorsy braided climbing rope handles and tuck-away backpack straps on the large model (which can fit 9 foot, 4-piece fly rod tubes inside) to make larger loads more manageable. In short the duffle is stylish, waterproof, and virtually bombproof. I suspect the bag can even withstand a disgruntled airline baggage handler—though if you’re using the smaller model, you’ll never have to find out because it’s carry-on compatible. fishpondusa.com

Sage and RIO’s Ongoing Partnership with Casting for Recovery

BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. (February 7, 2017) – Sage Manufacturing and RIO Products, partnered with non-profit Casting for Recovery (CfR) for the fourth year in a row generating over $53,000 to expand CfR’s mission. This year sales from Sage’s GRACE Outfit and RIO’s Pink RIO Gold line garnered roughly $6,550 for Casting for Recovery to support its mission to educate and inspire women with breast cancer.

Casting for Recovery enhances the lives of women with breast cancer by combining health education and peer support through fly fishing. Free retreats offer women the opportunity to find inspiration, support, and a healing connection with nature while learning the sport of fly fishing.

“Sage and RIO have been supporting Casting for Recovery for years through the GRACE outfit and Pink RIO Gold line,” says Whitney Milhoan, executive director of CfR. “These special products are making a difference in very real, tangible ways – funds from these sales have sponsored life-changing CfR experiences for more than 50 women with breast cancer, introducing them to the healing properties of fly fishing. With more women being diagnosed each year, CfR is rapidly expanding programs to meet demand, and Sage and RIO’s commitment to supporting our mission means more than ever. We’re so grateful.”

“This collaboration is really meaningful for us, and we are excited about the opportunities CfR creates for women with breast cancer,” comments Sage and RIO vice president of marketing Tag Kleiner. “We are so grateful to the entire fly fishing community for supporting CfR by purchasing these products. We look forward to continuing to grow this partnership for years to come.”

Tom Rosenbauer Talks About His New Book and His Less Obvious Obsession

Fly Fusion Magazine’s founding editor, Derek Bird, had the chance to catch up with Orvis fly-fishing guru and author, Tom Rosenbauer, to chat with him about his new book and some of his other hidden talents.  Rosenbauer’s book, Fly Fishing for Trout: The Next Level is a multi-media style book loaded with information, photos and video links.

“This is a really pertinent book. The difference between a successful day on the water and its opposite is often directly tied to an angler’s knowledge. Tom’s new book is filled with information sure to add to any trout angler’s gear bag of tricks,” Bird said.

You can eavesdrop on a recent phone conversation between the two of them by clicking on the link below.
