Testers had lots of positive comments regarding the Stormfront Waterproof Pack. At the top of the list were simplicity and functionality. A few of the testers fish with backpacks almost exclusively, so they were excited to get their hands on Patagonia’s new pack. This is a dream gear bag for the fly fisher who wants to comfortably carry a few extras for their trip like a camera or other devises that shouldn’t get wet. For any angler who does a lot of walk-and-wade trips, especially in coastal climates where rainy days are the norm, this pack is ideal. It keeps all the gear dry. No more smudged fishing licenses or soaked dry flies. Aside from being fully waterproof, the pack also has all the basic necessities. The shoulder straps have an area to place forceps and there are movable (and adjustable) straps specifically for holding a rod tube. For fly anglers looking to add a little more distance to their cast or planning to expand their advanced casting arsenal, lots of different options exist nowadays. You can book a casting clinic, find a column in a magazine, or search out numerous instructional videos online. If you decided to go with the online option, Fly Fusion staff helped to narrow the search by providing you with two of their favourite casting series.

R.L. Winston Casting Series–One of the all-time greats, Joan Wulff, presents an easy-to-follow 10 part instructional casting series packed with basics for the newcomer or for the long-time angler who wants to break some poor habits. A Reminder for Fly Anglers to Stay Safe on the Water

Vancouver, B.C. – As boaters across British Columbia prepare for the official start of the 2017 boating season this long weekend, Boating BC is urging boaters to put safety first.

National Safe Boating Awareness Week is May 20th to the 26th, coinciding with the launch of the boating season, and Boating BC President Don Prittie says boating is both safe and easy.

“Every year we see more and more people take up boating as a fun, safe and easy activity to explore our province,” says Prittie. “We’re optimistic that the 2017 boating season will be as active as ever. With over 27,000 kilometers of coastline and hundreds of lakes and rivers we have a simple message for British Columbians: Get out on the water but do it safely.”

Prittie says there are easy and affordable safe boating courses available online and around the province and everyone on the water should remember some basic tips:

  • Always where a properly fitted personal flotation device.
  • Never drink and boat.
  • Keeping emergency kits, navigation equipment and distress equipment onboard at all times.
  • Check weather conditions and patterns before leaving and during your trip.
